The French automaker is all set to expanded its Indian product portfolio with the all-new Citroen Basalt SUV coupe. It will be the fifth model from the company, targeting the newly launched Tata Curvv and mid-size SUVs including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, and Maruti Grand Vitara. Prices of the Basalt will be revealed on 9th August 2024. Let’s take a look at key details of this forthcoming SUV coupe.
Engine Specs, Mileage
The engine setup of the new Citroen Basalt consists of two petrol engines: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated delivering 82hp and 115Nm of torque, and a 1.2L turbo engine offering 110hp. The turbocharged gasoline unit is available with 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearboxes, producing 190Nm and 205Nm, respectively. The carmaker claims that the Basalt with the naturally aspirated petrol engine delivers a fuel efficiency of 18 kmpl, while the turbo-petrol version offers 19.5 kmpl (MT) and 18.7 kmpl (AT).
Interior and Features
The Citroen Basalt shares several features with the C3 Aircross, including the dashboard design, a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. However, it gets a new HVAC panel with digital readouts, automatic AC function (instead of manual AC), and new toggle switches.
Additional features include automatic climate control, a new and bigger front armrest with storage space, contoured rear headrests, a three-spoke steering wheel, a 15W wireless smartphone charger, connected car tech, and rear AC vents. The Basalt is the first vehicle in its category to offer a rear bench seat with adjustable thigh support.
Citroen claims that its new coupe SUV offers a boot space of 470 litres. All variants of the Citroen Basalt are equipped with safety features such as six airbags, hill hold assist, an electronic stability program, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and hill hold assist.
Colours and Design
The Basalt comes in five monotone and two dual-tone color options. The single-tone shades are Steel Grey, Garnet Red, Polar White, Cosmo Blue, and Platinum Grey. The Garnet Red and Polar White paint schemes are also available with a contrast black roof option.
The coupe SUV carries a close resemblance to the C3 Aircross with design elements such as a two-part grille with a chrome-lined Chevron logo, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, a faux silver skid plate, squared-off cladding on the wheel arches, 16-inch alloy wheels, pull-type door handles, a contoured tailgate, a dual-tone rear bumper with black and silver finish, and halogen taillamps with a 3D effect.
