Controversies are not uncommon for any film or TV show. The problem has existed ever since the entertainment industry became an important part of everyone’s lives. We recently witnessed another issue emerging out of a web series and it grabbed a lot of attention on social media.

Titled IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, the Netflix series was made to make everyone aware of an incident that happened in real life. What should have been provided knowledge the public turned out to be a reason for the public to boycott the platform.

The series shows that the terrorists used codenames for each other, with two of them being Bhola and Shankar. Netizens accused the show of hurting the sentiments of a particular religion and not revealing the real names of the terrorists.

Although multiple publications have reported that Bhola and Shankar were the codenames used by the hijackers in reality, the controversy did not end with people criticizing the producers for committing such a big mistake. Meanwhile, a separate disclaimer was added later with the names of the terrorists being included in the list.

While there is no clarity on when this controversy will end, it has helped Netflix to expand its audience. Notably, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack has now reached the second spot in the list of the top ten trending shows on the streaming platform.

The controversy has somehow helped the show to get more popular as people are starting to watch it and know exactly what Anubhav Sinha and the rest of the team have made. Despite the negative reactions linked to the controversy, the show has additionally received a positive response for its flawless performances.
