Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) is going to reopen the Vizag Beach floating bridge. The urban body formed an expert committee to look into the matter. The committee will assess and submit a report on the best location for the floating bridge on Beach Road. Once the report is received, the VMRDA will reopen the bridge.
The previous floating bridge, launched on February 25, was said to be washed away on the very next day of the inauguration. The VMRDA explained that due to high tides, the T-shaped viewing point of the bridge was detached and placed near the anchors to check its stability. However, some individuals took pictures showing the gap between the bridge and the detached viewing point, falsely claiming that the floating bridge was broken, the urban body said.
Before the assembly elections, YSRC senior leader and member of Rajya Sabha Y. V. Subba Reddy inaugurated the floating bridge at the popular RK Beach in the port city. Ironically, within 24 hours, images and videos of the broken section of the structure floating in seawater spread widely, causing significant embarrassment to the YSRC government as the opposition TD further circulated them.
