Vijayawada: In a relief to Tollywood actor Allu Arjun, Andhra Pradesh high court on Friday quashed the FIR registered against him by Nandyal police for alleged violation of model code of conduct during the 2024 general elections. The high court earlier reserved orders and stayed all further proceedings in the case.
Arjun, along with former YSRCP MLA Ravichandra Kishore Reddy, moved the high court seeking to quash the case registered against them following a complaint by the Nandyal deputy tahsildar. In the complaint, it was alleged that Arjun came to Nandyal without obtaining permission from the returning officer.
Y Nagi Reddy, arguing for the petitioners, stating that Arjun’s visit to Nandyal was purely a personal affair and had nothing to do with the election. Arjun could not be held responsible for the gathering of people at the house of Kishore Reddy, Nagi Reddy argued, while adding that the question of code violation does not arise when the gathering was not organised.
The assistant public prosecutor said police have already filed a charge-sheet in the case and are waiting for it to be numbered. Considering the arguments on both sides, Justice VRK Krupa Sagar allowed the petitions and quashed the case against the petitioners.
