Hyderabad: Former Telangana Digital Media director and social media activist Dileep Konatham was reportedly arrested by the Hyderabad Cybercrime police on Monday.

While the exact reason for the arrest was yet to be ascertained, Dileep was initially summoned for questioning on Monday in connection with a previous case for reposting video links of the Jainoor clashes in September this year.

However, upon reaching the Cybercrime police station, the police informed that he was under arrest and was taken to the Osmania Hospital for medical examination, and was later presented before the magistrate for remand.

Hours before his arrest on Monday, Dileep had posted a photograph of himself on X, standing next to the statue of a lion, stating, “Sar par qafan bandh ke chalne waale, mauth se nahi darthe (Those who tie a shroud on their head are not afraid of death).”

Reacting to the arrest, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said Dileep was arrested for pointing out the failures of the Congress government. The Congress government was implementing a dictator’s rule and the Nizam’s constitution in Telangana, while claiming to be champions of democracy, he said.

“How long will you plan to undermine democracy and continue to survive with these illegal arrests? As lovers of democracy, we will fight you democratically,” he asserted, declaring that the BRS could not be intimidated by such illegal arrests and empty threats.

Former Minister and senior BRS leader T Harish Rao also condemned the arrest of Dileep and demanded for his immediate release. He advised the Congress government to stop indulging in vendetta politics.

“This government claims to be a people’s government, but is acting undemocratically. It is a shame that this government chose to harass those who are questioning it, with false cases,” he said.

Dileep was detained by the Cybercrime police earlier on September 6 this year, for allegedly reposting a video linked to the clash between two communities in Jainoor of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district over an alleged rape and murder attempt.

The police registered a suo moto case against him for circulating the videos and photos, but later released him after grilling him for more than 12 hours. He was asked to appear before the police whenever summoned.
