Hyderabad: A 25-year-old woman, Ashwitha Singh, died after falling from the ninth floor of a building in the My Home Bhooja area of Hyderabad. Ashwitha, originally from Odisha, had come to the city for surrogacy, a deal reportedly worth Rs 10 lakh. The incident, which occurred on the night of November 25-26, has left police searching for answers, with suspicions of foul play surrounding her death.

Ashwitha was brought to Hyderabad by 54-year-old businessman Rajesh Babu, who had hired her for surrogacy. However, reports suggest that Ashwitha was unhappy with Rajesh’s behaviour, leading her to try and escape. According to police, her escape attempt may have led to her fatal fall. Her body was later taken to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem.

Ashwitha’s husband has accused the businessman of sexually harassing his wife. He believes that this harassment might have led Ashwitha to take her own life, a claim which the police are currently investigating. In light of these allegations, the police have filed a case of abetment of suicide against Rajesh Babu.

What Happened?

Ashwitha had been staying in a room at the businessman’s apartment for the past month, while her husband remained in a separate room. Rajesh Babu, who lives in the same flat with his wife and family, was scheduled to begin the surrogacy procedure next month.

When police arrived at the scene, they discovered saris tied to an iron grill on the balcony of the woman’s room, extending from the ninth floor to the seventh. This raised suspicion that Ashwitha might have tried to climb down in an attempt to escape. While the police are considering the possibility of suicide, they are also investigating whether the fall was accidental or if foul play was involved.

The case has been registered and the investigation is ongoing.
