Nizamabad civic body starts drive to collect property tax dues

Nizamabad:The Nizamabad Municipal Corporation has launched a special drive to collect property tax dues for the 2024-25 financial year, reminding residents that overdue payments will incur a 2 per cent penalty. Officials emphasised that June 30 and December 31 are the biannual deadlines, urging taxpayers to meet these cutoffs to avoid additional charges.

Property tax notices were previously issued, and now revenue officials are visiting taxpayers, encouraging online payments. Municipal commissioner Dileep Kumar convened a meeting with officials to streamline the collection process and instructed division-wise interaction programmes to clarify payment procedures.

According to the Telangana Municipal Act, property taxes can be paid in two installments. If the first installment due by June 30 is missed, a 2 per cent penalty applies from July 1, while late payments after December 31 are penalised similarly from January 1 onward.

Commissioner Kumar appealed to the public to settle their dues promptly, stressing that timely tax payments would contribute to the development of Nizamabad and that defaulters risk facing penalties under the Municipal Act.
