Warangal: With Makar Sankranti approaching, police have warned people against using the Chinese ‘Manja’ (glass-coated synthetic threads) and plastic threads for the purpose.
Commissioner of Police Amber Kishor Jha said stringent action would be initiated against those who found selling and using Chinese Manja for flying kites.
These Chinese manjas, made of nylon and synthetic threads, were dangerous to humans as well as birds and environment, he said, adding that appropriate measures were being taken to prevent the sale of Chinese manja in all areas under the commissionerate.
“Chinese metal-coated manja puts both kite flyers and birds at risk,”he cautioned.
Despite a ban on Chinese Manja, plastic threads and threads coated with fine glass particles continue to be sold at different places in the city, as a result, a lot of animals and birds get trapped in the manjha. In the last few days the police seized Chinese manja worth Rs. 2.5 lakh in the Warangal city.
The Police Commissioner has asked the public to provide information about anyone selling or using Chinese manja.
