Centre appoints 4 new judges to Telangana HC

Hyderabad: The Centre on Wednesday approved the Supreme Court collegium‘s recommendation and appointed four senior district judges as additional judges of the Telangana high court. They will be sworn in on Jan 25.
As per the Centre’s notification, district judges E Tirumala Devi, Renuka Yara, Narsing Rao Nandikonda and B R Madhusudhan Rao will be sworn in as additional judges and they will become permanent judges once their services are confirmed.
This will take the number of judges in Telangana HC to 30. But there will still be 12 vacancies as the sanctioned strength is 42.
If the names of the four advocates which were sent to the Supreme Court in Dec 2023 are also cleared, the bench strength will reach 34.
There is resentment in the Bar about the names of the advocates not being cleared despite over a year, while the district judges, whose names were sent seven months ago, have been elevated to the HC.
