DCA seizes illegal drugs worth 2L & meds sold with misleading claims

Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana has seized illegal drugs worth 2.2 lakh and cracked down on medicines being sold with misleading advertisements during raids across the state.
The raids were conducted at various places in the state, including Jillelaguda village, Gajularamaram village and Nagarkurnool.
In East Marredpally, Secunderabad, Siddi Sridhar was found illegally stocking and selling medicines at his clinic without proper authorisation. DCA officials seized 27 types of medicines, including antibiotics and analgesics. All worth 2.2 lakh.
In another raid, the DCA cracked down on manufacturers who were marketing Ayurvedic medicines with misleading claims. Three products – Dava-Tone Syrup, which claimed to treat kidney stones, and Satapushpa Fruit Churna and Kordifolia Tablets, which both claimed to treat fever — were seized for violating the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
The seized products were manufactured by companies from various states, including Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana. Samples of the seized products have been sent for analysis.
Stocking medicines for sale without a proper licence is a serious offence punishable with imprisonment of up to five years under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
The DCA said strict action would be taken against wholesalers and distributors who supply medicines to unlicensed entities.
