TPCC president and MLC B. Mahesh Kumar Goud criticised Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for not attending the Assembly’s special session convened on Tuesday to discuss the comprehensive report of the socio, economic, education, employment, political, and caste survey. He also questioned the moral authority of KCR to hold the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly post since he is abstaining from serious discussions.
Participating in the discussion on the caste census report in the Legislative Council on Tuesday, Mr. Mahesh Kumar said that the conduct of the caste census by the Congress government in the State is a historic event. “With the conduct of the caste census, we have come to know that the Backward Classes, excluding Muslim minorities, constitute 46.25% of Telangana’s total population,” he said, adding that the percentage would cross 50 with the addition of BC people among the minorities (BC-E).
Reiterating the Congress party’s commitment to uplift the BCs, he said that Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s promise to take up the caste census aimed at the uplift of the BC people had been fulfilled with the successful completion of the caste survey. Finding fault with the BRS legislators for staging a walkout from the Council, he said that BRS had lost moral ground to talk about the issues of the BCs with their indifferent approach towards the welfare of the BC people. He also asked whether the BRS could appoint a BC leader as their party president to prove their sincerity towards encouraging BC leadership in politics. Further, Mr. Mahesh Kumar claimed that the BRS could not find suitable candidates to contest the local body polls.
The Congress senior leader also observed that infighting between MLC Kavitha and her brother K.T. Rama Rao, the MLA from Sircilla, was rising with the social media war between the two factions. He also questioned the ‘silence’ of the BRS MLC Harish Rao on the caste census. Making a scathing attack on the BJP, he also demanded that the BJP prove its commitment to BC welfare by taking up the caste census across the nation.
