Kurnool District Collector P. Ranjit Basha and Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patel appealed to the people to wear a helmet while driving a two-wheeler.
The Collector and SP participated in a two-wheeler rally taken out on the streets of Kurnool city on Thursday (February 06) to create awareness among the people on wearing a helmet. The rally started at the District Police Office at Kondareddy Burju and passed through the Kids World, Raj Vihar Circle, Collectorate and culminated at C Camp Centre.
Speaking after flagging off the rally, Mr. Ranjit Basha said various programmes and rallies are being held to create awareness about road safety as part of National Road Safety month. The Collector urged the people to follow traffic rules for their own safety. He said rash and drunken driving is leading to fatal accidents and those who are driving safely following norms were also getting killed in such accidents due to the mistake of others. To prevent fatalities in such accidents, one has to use a helmet, he said.
Checks to find persons driving under influence of alcohol have been intensified to prevent accidents and the Police are arranging sign boards and speed breakers at required places with the help of National Highway Authority of India and Roads and Buildings department. He assured to regulate traffic in a planned manner in six months.
Mr. Vikrant Patel said the road safety month is being held from January 16 to February 15 during which awareness programmes would be held on road safety. The SP said 90% of fatalities can be reduced by wearing a helmet by motorists. Majority of the people involved in accidents are getting killed due to head injury as they were not wearing a helmet, he said.
The SP said they would coordinate with other departments and take steps for reducing the road accidents during 2025. He said they would identify more black spots and take steps to reduce accidents at such places.
Deputy Transport Commissioner Shanta Kumari, Kurnool Municipal Commissioner Ravindra Babu and other police officials participated in the rally.
