Star India pacer Mohammed Shami has yet again been subject to trolls and innumerable hate comments after he was seen sipping on an energy drink during the Champions Trophy semifinal clash against Australia, at a time when Muslims worldwide are fasting for Ramzan.

Shami was brutally trolled on social media after visuals of him sipping drinks on the boundary ropes went viral on the internet.

Most practising Muslims fast through the day, but the visuals suggested that Shami skipped the fast to serve his country, which didn’t go down well with some people.

Har koy hashim amla nhi hota, ” a user commented on Shami’s Instagram post. It is said that once former South Africa batter Hashim Amla scored truckloads of runs while fasting, but there isn’t any confirmation.

“Kaash Roza Rakh K Kheleta..alag Maza Aata,” Another User Commined.

But not all comments were hateful. Shami did receive a lot of accolades for keeping his country above religion as well.

“Bro Proved Country always First, Religion Second,” a user commented on Shami’s Instagram post. “Appreciate shami bhaiii u skipped ur roza for the nation,” another user commented.

In the match against Australia, Shami played a crucial role, picking up three wickets- that of Cooper Connollya set Steve Smith and Nathan Ellis.

“I think those who are saying anything have no understanding of Islam. This child is playing for the country. He is not playing any local matches… If he is playing for the country, then what is the problem?” Shami’s coach, Badruddin Siddiqui, asked while speaking to PTI.

“Roza is obligatory for every Muslim, just like Namaz is. However, when a person is traveling, there are many exemptions. The Imam should read some Islamic books, where it is mentioned that if a person is on a journey or under certain conditions, they can skip roza,” Shami’s cousin Mohammed Kaif said while speaking to IANS.

The temperature in Dubai is supposed to be at 33 degrees Celsius on Sunday, during the final of the Champions Trophy and as per Ramzan rules, Shami isn’t allowed to drink water or consume solid food from sunrise till sunset, which would be a harsh decree in sweltering Dubai heat, at 31% humidity.
