Foundation Laid for Rs 28 Crore Polytechnic College in Hanamkonda

Warangal: A new era in technical education in Warangal was marked on Friday with the foundation stone being laid for a Rs 28 crore Polytechnic College building in Hanamkonda. Warangal West MLA Naini Rajender Reddy performed the bhoomi puja along with dignitaries including Warangal MP Kadiyam Kavya, Wardhannapet MLA K.R. Nagaraju, Kuda chairman Enagala Venkataram Reddy, Hanamkonda district collector Praveenya, and Warangal Congress president Errabelli Swarna.

MLA Rajender Reddy reminisced about the institution’s legacy, noting that the Government Polytechnic College, established in 1955 during Jawaharlal Nehru’s tenure and developed under Technical Education Minister Hayagreeva Chary, had evolved from a junior technical school into a full-fledged diploma institute. However, the aging building had become hazardous since Telangana’s formation in 2014, with previous appeals for renovation overlooked by the prior administration.

Under the current Congress government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, funding has been approved to replace the deteriorating structure. Rajender Reddy promised that the new building would be completed swiftly through a transparent tender process and described it as a gift to future generations. He also revealed plans to upgrade the institute to a full-fledged Government Engineering College.

MP Kadiyam Kavya criticised the previous regime for its neglect of technical education, including the closure of the Government Women’s Vocational College. She underscored the current government’s commitment to quality engineering education and job creation through new recruitment and self-employment schemes.

The ceremony was attended by the Polytechnic College principal Dr Bairi Prabhakar, Dr Ram Prasad, alumni association leaders, former principals, faculty members, students, and local Congress representatives.
