Telangana HC fines Group-I exam aspirants Rs 20,000 for misleading the court

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court Single Bench comprising Justice Nagesh Bheemakapaka on Monday directed the 19 petitioners/candidates, who appeared for the Group-1 main examination in October 2024 and were unsuccessful in securing a rank, to pay an amount of Rs 20,000 to the Court Masters and Personal Secretaries to the Hon’ble Judges of the High Court.

Further, Justice Bheemapaka directed the Registrar (Judicial) to initiate prosecution against all the 19 Petitioners / unsuccessful candidates in the Group-1 mains examination for ‘Falsely Deposing on Oath” before the Court.

The ground on which the Judge imposed a fine of Rs. 20,000 on the petitioners is that they cited the hall ticket of a candidate (Hall Ticket. No. 240920176) in the petition, stating that the marks in respect of the candidate referred to in the Hall Ticket cited were reduced from 329.5 to 192.5 and alleged that there were irregularities and discrepancies during the evaluation.

However, Justice Bheemapaka pointed out that the candidate with the above Hall Ticket Number is neither a party to the Writ Petition nor had he approached the TGPSC with a grievance that his marks were reduced. This false contention of the petitioners led to the imposition of a cost of Rs. 20,000 and also prosecution.

Moreover, eight of the 19 petitioners are government employees (State and Central Government) and initiation of prosecution against them will go against them in their future service. The Judge “Dismissed” the Writ Petition filed by K. Muthaiah, an Indian Railways Employee, and 18 others. All of them appeared for the Group-1 mains examination, but could not get a rank on the selection list.
