GHMC to Employ Transgenders for Various Roles

Hyderabad: After the traffic police, the GHMC will employ transgenders in various roles following the direction of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to make the persons of the third gender economically viable.

According to a statement issued by the GHMC, the civic body will employ transgenders as paramedics at Basti Dawakhanas and as security personnel at Metro Rail stations and other locations. Transgender personnel will also be deployed as green marshals to enforce cleanliness at parks, HMWS&SB water reservoirs and testing the quality of drinking water. They will be trained to repair and maintain street lights.

Transgenders will also be enrolled in Self-Help Groups (SGHs) for providing them financial assistance through banks similar to women SHGs.

The GHMC officials met the representatives of the transgender community in the city at GHMC head office on Wednesday and discussed several employment opportunities for them in the city.

They urged the transgenders to choose a sector according to their educational qualifications, skills and interests, and GHMC will initiate steps to provide employment by providing training accordingly.
