Vijayawada: The Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary K Ramakrishna on Saturday demanded a comprehensive investigation into the overnight demolition of Satavahana College buildings here. He called for stern action against those involved in the alleged land grab and insisted that the government take over the college’s management. Ramakrishna, accompanied by city secretary G Koteswara Rao, visited the demolition site this morning. However, the police reportedly denied them permission to enter the college grounds.
Speaking to the media, Ramakrishna questioned the demolition. “The government should have taken responsibility for managing this disputed college instead of allowing it to be bulldozed overnight. What kind of culture is this?” he asked. He alleged a pre-planned conspiracy between MLC Alapati and the college management to seize the 55-year-old Satavahana College property.
City Secretary G Koteswara Rao expressed deep concern, stating that thousands of students have graduated from colleges like Satavahana, Saptagiri, Syed Appalaswamy, and Jyothi over the past fifty years. He lamented that the current rulers are now allowing the illegal occupation of these institutions. “Students’ files, computers, books, and cupboards were all destroyed. This will be a tearful chapter in the city’s history,” Koteswara Rao added.
The CPI leaders demanded that the government assume full responsibility for Satavahana College and ensure its continued operation as a public institution.
CPI leaders Padala Kanakarao, Seshu and former college students Motukuri Arun Kumar, Narendra, Kiran, and others participated in the programme.
