My Maruti Suzuki Ertiga 1.5 AT: City and Highway Mileage

The mileage figures for city are like 8-12 in city driving. I use in Pune for daily commute from Hadapsar to Hinjewadi which is around 32kms one side

BHPian Yeshwant recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

I am using Etriga AT (2024) from last 6 months and have done almost 9k ODO, which I know is less.
The mileage figures for city are like 8-12 in city driving. I use in Pune for daily commute from Hadapsar to Hinjewadi which is around 32kms one side. Morning time I get around 14 kmpl as its less traffic and while return I get 8-10 kmpl.

Highway Mileage

Pune (MH) to Prayagraj (UP) full load 5 passenger fuel economy was 15.9kmpl (total-3100 kms)
Pune (MH) to Kevadia, Vadodara, Surat (GJ) half load 4 passengers 16.5kmpl (total- 1300 kms)
Pune (MH) to Ujjain, Indore, Onkareshwar (MP) Full load fuel eco was 16.9kmpl. (total 1600 kms)

Pune to Prayagraj was good with samrudhi expressway but faced a heavy traffic in Prayagraj city where it took me 14hrs to cover 50kms. Car was always running in this condition. Even at start from Pune to pass Ch. Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad) it took 6hrs to cover 240 kms.
Pune-Kevadia Gujarat- we took Ahmedabad highway, road was really good but huge traffic as it is always full with trucks. took me 15+ hrs to cover 570 kms.
Pune-Ujjain took as around 14 hrs to reach the spot.

City Mileage

Coming to mileage on Ertiga AT is a bit challenge in city traffic as we the vehicle is always in drive mode and even if you have start stop engine the engine fires quickly as the cabin temp jumps up. Also since we generally don’t engage the NUTERAL mode in AT the gearbox is always engaged and this leads to fuel consumption. The start stop does help but its not that big. Ideally I would say city drive we can get 8-12kmpl in regular traffic and expecting above this is not possible in Pune, Mumbai or Bengaluru traffic.

Coming on the highway I would say you can easily get a fuel economy of 17-20kmpl without any issues, only thing is you have to be very delicate on the accelerator paddle. I can confidently say if you are driving at a comfortable speed of 60-90kmph you will get a economy of 17-19 for sure.
I have got a decent mileage which is 20+kmpl on Pune-Prayagraj trip on few stretch where car was running 3 hrs non stop.

I have extracted the data from the Suzuki connect app and tried to get a chart to show how the vehicle avg speed, duration of drive and fuel economy (bars on the chart). You can see I have got 20+kmpl mileage and I have even got 20.5+ in some cases which I have removed from the data as those were less that 1hrs drive.

If you are getting the data from the Suzuki connect app than you have to filter all the low mileage data which are below 2-3kms drive as those are least economical as car does not reach its optimum temp and conditions.

Coming to the car comfort I would say there is no match. the refinement at this cost no other OEM can match.

Why I Picked The Ertiga Over The Grand Vitara Hybrid?

I have attached a snip of the vehicle’s running cost calculator for taking a decision on which car to go for.
I was considering Grand Vitara hybrid and then I did some calculation and it gave me a clear picture that Ertiga will be economical if I am driving say 10K-15K per year and it will need 14 years to offset the Grand Vitara cost and 1.4 lac kms to drive to reach that. (I have not considered the battery cost that might need replacement after some years).
Have a look and would like to hear your comments.
Thanks to all as this thread actually helped me to finalise my buying decision
