The Guntur City Traffic Police on Saturday announced traffic diversions from June 23 onwards in the city for the reconstruction of Rail Over Bridge (ROB) at Brodipet.

As the railway track vertically divides the city into East and West parts, the ROB became an important junction in the city. The railway department is replacing the old bridge with new ROB at an estimated cost of ₹98 crore for civil works.

District Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar announced that the diversions will come into effect from Monday (June 23) and are aimed at ensuring smoother traffic flow and public safety during the construction period.

As per the new plan, all heavy vehicles traveling from Amaravati Road towards MTB Centre (Ramesh Hospital Junction) must use the route via Chillies Point and Inner Ring Road. Similarly, heavy vehicles moving from MTB Centre to Lodge Centre must proceed via Ramesh Hospital through the Kankaragunta flyover. These restrictions also apply to school and college buses.

For light vehicles such as cars, autos, and two-wheelers, the diversions are as follows: Those commuting from Lodge Centre to MTB Centre may either take Arundelpet through Potti Sriramulu Nagar and Donka Road via Mudu Vantenalu (Three bridges) or travel via Brodipet and Kankaragunta Flyover.

Vehicles from areas like Kobaldpet, Krishna Nagar, Chandramouli Nagar, Brindavan Gardens, and Lakshmipuram heading towards the market are advised to travel via Pattabhipuram Police Station Road or Brodipet 18th Line, and continue through the Kankaragunta Underpass, Collector Office Road, and Ramesh Hospital.

Vehicles traveling from MTB Centre to Lodge Centre may use the Sankar Vilas Flyover. For those coming from Pattabhipuram towards the Government General Hospital (GGH), the suggested route is through Kankaragunta Flyover, Medical College, and Sankar Vilas Underpass.

Commuters from Mudu Vantenalu heading to GGH should use the Naaz Centre and Pallavi Theatre road. The return route from GGH to MTB Centre is via Pallavi Theatre, Naaz Centre, and Women’s College Road. Those traveling from GGH to the Bus Stand are advised to use Pallavi Theatre, Naaz Centre, and Bhagat Singh Statue junction. The reverse route from the Bus Stand to GGH should follow the same roads in the opposite direction.

Heavy vehicles from Lodge Centre to MTB Centre can proceed via Chillies Point, Inner Ring Road, Autonagar, and then either to the Bus Stand or Kankaragunta Flyover. The Superintendent of Police advised all commuters to plan their travel in advance to avoid delays and confusion. “Temporary diversions have been arranged for the convenience of the public,” said Mr. Satish Kumar.

It may be noted here that the State government through the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) had acquired additional land for the expansion of the bridge. GMC Commissioner Puli Srinivasulu said that the land acquisition for expansion works was almost completed, adding that they have given structure loss and TDR bonds for the existing buildings and lands.

Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar told The Hindu that the government is trying to complete the ROB as early as possible, and the contractor is mandated to conclude the work within two years.
