Popular Telugu television anchor Swetcha Votarker was found dead at her residence in Jawahar Nagar, under the limits of the Chikkadpally police station in Hyderabad. The incident came to light in the early hours of Friday.
According to preliminary findings, Swetcha was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her room. Police suspect it to be a case of suicide but have not ruled out other possibilities, including foul play.
No suicide note was recovered from the scene, though reports suggest she may have been under mental stress. Her body has been shifted to Gandhi Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Swetcha was a prominent figure in the Telugu media industry, known for anchoring shows that highlighted public issues and social concerns. She maintained an active presence on social media, where she engaged with her audience regularly.
Reports indicate she posted an emotional message just hours before her death, though the police have yet to verify its contents officially.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) in a post on X shared his condolence and said: “Deeply saddened to hear about the unfortunate demise of Swetcha Votarkar, a fierce journalist, writer and a dedicated Telanganite. I am at a loss for words. My heartfelt condolences to her family, especially her daughter & her mother. And I hope they find the strength to deal with this horrific loss.”
“Telangana has lost a very bright mind. To everyone reading this – if you ever feel that life is tough, please don’t hesitate to reach out to a professional. Life is meant to be lived and there is always support available,” he added.
The police have registered a case and are examining various angles including personal and professional stress, and any potential foul play. Forensic reports, post-mortem findings and CCTV footage are expected to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding her death.
