Hyderabad: The police managed to rescue a six-year-old girl who was kidnapped from Shamshabad earlier this month and found her in Vikarabad on Wednesday. The woman who kidnapped the girl was taken into custody.
The girl was kidnapped from a toddy compound in Shamshabad on July 1 and was reported to the police on July 7. The RGI Airport police registered a case and formed special teams to rescue the girl.
A rag picker, Lakshmamma (30) from Mahabubnagar, had stopped at a toddy compound in Shamshabad with her two daughters—six-year-old K Keerthana and three-year-old K Archana—while returning home by train.
While at the compound, a middle-aged woman approached Lakshmamma and, after spending some time with her, took away Keerthana.
The police teams tracked down the woman to Vikarabad.
The kidnapper has been identified as Ranganpuram Rajini (37), of Indrangardoddi, Rallaguda.
“The woman did not have children, so she decided to kidnap and raise a child. On getting an opportunity, the woman kidnapped Keerthana and escaped,” said RGI Airport Inspector K Balaraju.
The woman was arrested and remanded.
