Hyderabad: Widespread rainfall drenched large parts of Telangana on Friday, severely affecting road traffic, disrupting flights, and flooding low-lying areas across the state. Hyderabad’s Marredpally at 114.8 mm and Balanagar in Medchal-Malkajgiri at 114.5 mm.
Statewide, Sangareddy’s Pulkal mandal recorded the highest rainfall at 120 mm. Dharmasagar in Rangareddy district recorded 108.8 mm, and Yadagirigutta 106.5 mm rainfall.
The intensity of rainfall led to severe waterlogging across various areas, from Chevella to Uppal, with reports of cellars getting flooded in residential buildings and water flowing into shops and ground-floor flats. Traffic crawled across key stretches in Bowenpally, Moosarambagh, LB Nagar, Malkajgiri, and Kukatpally as rainwater pooled on the roads.
Two flights— Air India Express flight AXB2884 from Siliguri and IndiGo flight IGO6912 from Bhubaneswar— were delayed on final approach to Hyderabad and were placed in a holding pattern over Nalgonda and Chityal before getting clearance to land. Both flights landed 20 minutes past their scheduled time.
Disaster Response Force (DRF), GHMC, and HYDRAA teams were deployed across the city to clear storm drains and help stranded commuters. Officials urged citizens to avoid parking vehicles in cellars and refrain from unnecessary travel until the rains subside.
