Mahindra XEV 9e city range: Interesting EV range insight worth sharing

If I had travelled the same distance, but had started with 90% SoC, the efficiency would have been around 5% higher.

My Mahindra XEV 9e range in the city – Small update

Recently, I had to travel 100 km in the city. This was from Gurgaon to Saket and back. XEV was charged to 100% just before leaving for this short trip and the whole 100Kms was covered in 18% SoC [555km projected range] and still the car showed 500km of range left. Drove like any ICE car would allow me to drive with no intention of eking out range.

The above was covered in the top 18% SoC, [100% – 82%]which requires a special mention as EVs tend to give the worst efficiency in the 100% to 95% SoC due to lack / minimal regen as the batteries cannot be charged at the rate of power generated by deacceleration.

Think of it this way that the EVs trickle the charging down to 1-3KW at the top SoC when charged by an AC EVSE of DCFC; hence, even the motor cannot be asked to generate more power than this, as the regen is nothing but a charging system for the battery. Based on momentum, a braking with 1-3KW would feel nothing and hence in this case, physical brakes are used in tandem.

Hence, If I had travelled the same distance, but had started with 90% SoC, the efficiency would have been around 5% higher.
