Hyderabad: As part of the road safety programme, the city authorities have intensified efforts to eliminate public inconveniences and curb accidents by carrying out extensive medium-level repairs of catch pits and potholes across the city.
So far, around 5,438 potholes have been attended to, of which 5157 have been repaired. Repairs for over 281 potholes were completed on Monday. Additionally, 256 catch pits have been addressed, with 69 catch pit covers replaced and three medium-level repairs undertaken.
Maintenance CE Ratnakar stated that the repair works on potholes and catch pits are being carried out as per the instructions of GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan.
Meanwhile, to address seasonal sanitation challenges, the GHMC will launch a 10-day special monsoon drive that will last from Tuesday to August 8 (excluding holidays). The operation will cover all 150 wards and focus on removing legacy waste such as municipal solid waste (MSW), construction and demolition (C&D) debris, green waste and residual material from engineering and urban biodiversity works.
The drive also targets garbage vulnerable points (GVPs), silt deposits from recent rains and aims to mitigate the risk of seasonal disease outbreaks. It will run daily from 5.30 am to 1.30 pm, in addition to regular sanitation efforts.
According to a GHMC circular issued on Monday, zonal commissioners, deputy commissioners, assistant medical officers of health, solid waste management engineers, urban biodiversity circle managers and entomologists are required to participate actively.
The GHMC, in a statement, appealed to residents to cooperate with sanitation staff and refrain from dumping debris in public areas.

‘WhatsApp Prajavani’ gets 1,450 plaints
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad collectorate has received over 1,450 WhatsApp messages within a day of launching a dedicated number (7416687878) for Prajavani grievance redressal, aimed at senior citizens and the specially abled.
Launched on July 27, the initiative allows residents to file complaints without attending the weekly in-person programme. Officials clarified that only complaints from within the Hyderabad district will be addressed. “An Action Taken Report (ATR) will be sent to the complainant’s mobile number,” said an official.
This facility is exclusive to the Prajavani held by the Hyderabad collectorate and does not extend to other districts, GHMC or HYDRAA. Messages from neighbouring districts, including Ranga Reddy, were also received—some were congratulatory in nature.
On the same day, 162 physical complaints were received at the Hyderabad collectorate, mainly concerning housing and revenue.
Meanwhile, GHMC held its Prajavani sessions at the head and zonal offices. GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan urged officials to address complaints with urgency.
At the GHMC head office, 66 complaints were received, with town planning logging the highest at 32. Other departments received: taxation (8), sanitation (8), engineering (5), urban biodiversity (3) and one each for veterinary, vigilance, administration, estate, and finance. Three phone-in complaints were also recorded.
