Diamondbacks Make Eugenio Suarez Decision After Leaving Tigers Game Early originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Third baseman Eugenio Suarez is in his second season with the Arizona Diamondbacks after making his big-league debut in 2014.
The 33-year-old right-handed power bat established himself as an offensive threat during his seven-year tenure with the Cincinnati Reds, where he made his first All-Star team in 2018 and smashed 189 home runs in 916 games.
Suarez was traded to the Seattle Mariners before the 2022 season and then was moved again to Arizona just two seasons later.
Suarez has been one of the best hitters in baseball this season despite trending toward the latter stages of his career, and with Arizona struggling, he has become the top target ahead of the trade deadline on Thursday.
During Monday’s game against the Detroit Tigers, Suarez was hit on the right index finger by a 95.6 mph sinker and left the game immediately.
Ahead of Tuesday’s matchup, the Diamondbacks held Suarez out of the lineup, though he said he would “be back soon” after x-rays returned negative.
No Eugenio Suarez (bruised index finger, or worse) today in the lineup. He did say last night that he’d "be back soon." https://t.co/fkMnuuZKkw

In 105 games this year, Suarez is hitting .248 with a .898 OPS, 36 home runs—second only to Shohei Ohtani in the National League—and 87 RBIs, the MLB lead.
Arizona is 51-56, 7.0 games back of a Wild Card spot, and key pieces like Suarez have surfaced in trade rumors now that they’re well out of contention.
The Diamondbacks shipped first baseman Josh Naylor to the Mariners last week and now look to rebuild the farm system and gain assets for expiring contracts.
