Replaced my Ecosport’s rear windshield: Overall experience

Hi Team-BHPians,

Few days back, my rear windshield of Ford EcoSport got broken with a hole in the middle & a stone was stuck between the spare tyre & boot door. It was a malicious act as far as I believe.

I claimed insurance (HDFC Ergo) online, clicked photos & wrote a brief description of the incident. Upon reaching Ford Service center, I was told that rear windshield was not in stock. It will take 3-5 days to come from Chennai. I filled up the insurance form, submitted all required documents, surveyor surveyed the car, approved the claim & I waited for parts arrival. However, the rear windshield didn’t arrive even after waiting for 2 weeks & there was no clarity on when it will arrive. I called service center informing them to cancel my order since 2 weeks is a very long time. You could say this is one of the current state of spare parts availability at Ford for rear windshield. I do not know about other states.

I then contacted Windshield Experts in Kailash Colony, Delhi after discussing with insurance surveyor since they handle insurance claims too.
On reaching the store, I explained what all happened till now & had them talk to my surveyor. They collected required documents & I was told to come next day.

On reaching next day, the people there started removing broken glasses & installed new one. Now the following part is my review of Windshield Experts at Kailash Colony.

They told that the pasting applied to stick old rear windshield was quite strong. It was not easy to remove them. They had to apply extensive pressure to remove the strong pasting. However, there were too many long line of scratches introduced in the metal body in the midst of removing this which is frankly not at all acceptable. I found out this at last while taking delivery. They could have been careful with this. Secondly, I feel like at one point, they diverted my attention saying that go to counter & start billing process when they were just about to install new windshield. I went to counter to complete billing formalities & when I came back, all the work was done – both the plastic cladding on rear boot door and rear windshield was installed. I was not able to observe the process. Though it’s fine but I was just curious to see nothing else. I requested them to clean the dust accumulated all over these years which was behind the glass in the starting but they failed to do so.

All in all, the service was fast. However, they could have taken care of not bringing up any new scratches while removing windshield. I do not know whether any rust will be formed in place of scratches few months down the line. Hence, I will rate 3 out of 5 stars.
