Hyderabad is bracing for heavy downpour as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the city and surrounding areas for August 13 and 14. It has also cautioned about the likelihood of flash floods during this period.

In a bulletin released on Tuesday (August 12, 2025) morning, the IMD forecast heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thundershowers, with occasional intense spells expected to bring between 7 and 12 centimetres of rainfall, and possibly more, in parts of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.

It warned that the anticipated weather could lead to waterlogging on roads and in low-lying areas across the city, resulting in traffic congestion at several locations. It also said that roads could become wet and slippery, trees and electric poles might fall, and electricity, water supply and other essential services could be disrupted for a few hours.
