Cases booked over ‘Marwari go back’ slogan, bandh call | Hyderabad News


Hyderabad: Osmania University police on Friday registered two cases against those who gave the ‘Marwari go back’ bandh call and burnt tyres in front of a jewellery shop at Habsiguda. In a parallel development, Hyderabad cyber crime police filed a suo motu case against an X handle that promoted the slogan and bandh call online.On Friday morning, three protesters wearing black scarves reached Navkar gold world shop at Habsiguda and set tyres ablaze in front of it while shouting slogans. Police reached the spot and detained them. Two suo motu cases were registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including section 196 (promoting enmity between groups on the basis of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc). According to OU assistant commissioner of police G Jagan, the accused include K Tirupati, chairman of OU joint action committee, Pruthviraj Yadav, president of Telangana Kranti Dal, and others including Venu, Balaji, Papa Rao, and Rama Krishna. East zone deputy commissioner of police B Bala Swamy said both cases are suo motu. “We have picked up some accused and they will be issued notices as per the provisions of the law,” he said. In another incident, Suraram police took Shyam Pagidipalli into preventive custody from his home on Friday morning for actively promoting the slogan on social media. “He was taken into custody to prevent any law and order problems and released in the night,” said inspector S Sudheer Krishna. Meanwhile, cyber crime police registered a suo motu case against the operator of X handle @Telangana_Sher for circulating the bandh call and slogan. The FIR stated, “The posts are aimed at creating fear, insecurity, and alarm among the Marwadi community.” The case was booked under sections 196 and 49 (punishment of abetment) of the BNS. The objectionable post has since been removed.
