NTR Exits YRF Spy Universe after War 2 flop

The failure of War 2 has shaken Yash Raj Films, forcing a rethink of its Spy Universe strategy. Starring Hrithik Roshan and NTRthe film collapsed both critically and commercially, leaving the studio with heavy financial losses. A direct result is the shelving of NTR’s standalone Agent Vikram spin-off.

Drive initially planned to use NTR’s Pan-India reach by building a solo film around Agent Vikram. But the flop of War 2 ended all excitement for the character. As reported by Bollywood Hungama, Aditya Chopra informed NTR that the spin-off was not possible, and the actor parted ways with the Spy Universe on good terms.

Even among NTR’s dedicated fans, the film lacked appeal. Many in the industry view shelving the project as the right decision, avoiding more risks and making space for new stories. The Spy Universe, once ambitious, has now suffered a major setback with this move.

War 2 was promoted as a grand Pan-India crossover but instead became a setback for NTR’s career. While he remains a leading name in Telugu cinema, the flop highlighted the steep challenges of ambitious crossover films in the Indian market.

With Agent Vikram cancelled, YRF has shifted focus to Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, scheduled for Christmas 2025. The end of NTR’s link with the Spy Universe shows that not every franchise spin-off has a future. For Telugu audiences, the failure of War 2 may mark the final end of this franchise.
