Hyderabad: The Ganesh idol immersion procession in the city ended up on a peaceful note on Sunday with no major untoward incident reported.

Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, C V Anand said that a total of 26,000 idols were immersed in the Hussainsagar lake on the final day of the procession.

“The officers worked for close to 40 hours to facilitate the smooth flow of the procession and immersion of idols. There was a bit of delay in the procession because due to height issues the Ganesh idols could not pass beneath the flyovers at some places,” said C V Anand.

He said despite the police asking the organizers to start early, they did not do it. “Our priority is to see the idols from the old city who are immersed in the first hours. However, the organizers did not cooperate with us when it came to maintaining punctuality,” he said.

Five cases were registered against persons who had fought with each other during the procession on petty issues. A few accidents were also reported.

The Hyderabad Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the local police in the Ganesh idol immersion activity at the Hussainsagar lake.
