What convinced me to book the Skoda Kylaq after a long test drive

What convinced me to book the Skoda Kylaq after a long test drive BHPian WalterWhite recently shared this with other enthusiasts: Hi Everyone, I am in the process of buying my first car. For almost 1 year I have been behind this need and have gone through a lot of reviews. I wanted to go with a small car and almost zeroed in on the Hyundai i20 N-Line. That is when the news of Skoda launching a sub-4-meter CSUV came out. I knew that Skoda, being Skoda, would not compromise on the engineering and the build quality. For me, features are the least priority. So I did the waiting game. Kylaq launched in December 2024, and the pricing was very good considering it is a Skoda. Since it is a new product and I already made a purchase recently (my 2024 Triumph Scrambler, aka Terra), I decided to wait a bit more and make the purchase. Finally now the time comes and here it goes: Took a test ride of the Kylaq Signature + AT last Friday (10-Oct). The test drive was arranged by Skoda Aluva. Mr. Navin from Skoda was kind enough to drive all the way to my home, which is around 25 km away from the showroom. I was driving an AT for the first time. Thanks to Mr. Navin, the senior sales guy from Skoda, for explaining everything and making me feel comfortable in the driving seat. For the drive I guided him to the beach road (Fort Kochi). From there I could take the wheel and drive towards Chellanam. Which is a straight road with moderate traffic. Kochi guys would know about this road better. Totally almost I drove for 20 kms.Skoda Kylaq AT: Overall Test Ride FeedbackNote: This is my first encounter in a car after almost 5 years. And I don’t have any prior experience driving any car for a longer time. So my feedback is purely based on what I felt in the car in isolation.Overall fit and finish is nothing short of excellentThe steering wheel is reach and height adjustableAC controls are definitely confusing. Should have given plain buttonsThe dead pedal space is a bit narrow and congested. The car starts silently.Once you let go of the brake, the car is eager to move forward without any accelerator inputI was always worried about clutch balance and changing gears while in an MT car. No such worries in an AT, as you only need to focus on the speed and the direction.Engine sound and tire noise are heard inside the cabin. There is a slight lag on hard acceleration. This could be the turbo lag, which is expected from a 3-pot 1-liter mill.On broken patches, the suspension comfort is very good. I remember being in a Ford EcoSport, and the suspension was way stiff in that car.ORVMs are very good, and I can see what is happening behind me while taking a turn.Crawling speed is a bit high. You can feel this in tight traffic.Rear seat space is very good for 2 adults and a child. Comfort is also good.AC was very good. The fan speed is very high.Booked the car on the same day by paying 15K. Booked the Prestige AT Lava Blue variant as my budget was close to the price after the GST price cuts. The next day visited the showroom and discussed in detail on the on-road price: On-road price: 1,557,068/ Skoda 360-degree camera (once installed, it will override the stock rear camera. This one comes with guidelines) : 40,000Skoda dual trumpet horn: 3,000So the total price comes to 16 lakhs rounded. As per the showroom, as of today, the car has already reached the service center (Kalamassery). I am going for a thorough PDI tomorrow. I will be shelling out 50% of the total cost from my pocket, and the rest will be financed from PNB with a 7.85% floating rate. I will update here after the PDI. Wish me luck guysCheck out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
