Two infants, a 2-month-old girl and a 14-month-old boy tested positive for COVID-19 at the Telangana government-run Niloufer Hospital on Thursday. The 14-month-old boy is currently in stable condition, while the younger girl has been placed on High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) therapy.

The boy was admitted to Niloufer Hospital on December 18, while the girl was admitted two days ago due to pneumonia symptoms, including cough, cold, and breathing difficulties. Routine COVID testing, conducted for all pneumonia cases, revealed the positive results. Superintendent of Niloufer Hospital T Usha Rani, confirmed: “We had sent the samples for testing, and it turned out to be positive on Thursday.” However, the parents of both children displayed no symptoms of the virus.

Adhering to standard protocols, the medical team will be treating the infants for COVID-19 following the approach typically employed for pneumonia cases. Additionally, the hospital has established a dedicated COVID ward to manage cases like these, said Dr. Usha Rani.

In response to the incident, Director of Medical Education (DME) B Triveni, scheduled a meeting with hospital superintendents to discuss and enhance COVID preparedness.
